Project Runway: “At this point, I think we’re designing a gown for the vice president of McDonald’s. However, everyone needs a dress.”

This season of Project Runway feels kind of like the show used to feel before it left Bravo, doesn’t it? It’s a nice feeling – warm, familiar, safe, fabulous. We’ve had three consecutive episodes with both Princess Michael Kors AND Nina Garcia in simultaneous attendance, our designers actually have sewing skills and personalities, and Tim Gunn doesn’t look utterly terrified anymore because the producers have returned him to his natural habitat of New York City

Well, it’s been a while since I have updated this thing…not that I haven’t wanted to, I just have not had the net time nor the energy.  In fact, I am typing this using the notepad on my laptop, so that I CAN try to make entries.  I have needed some “energy recharging” time, and I am staying at the flat where Prabal and I sleep, which has no net.Power, yes.  Running water, toilet, yes.  Capability of net, yes,  just not yet . Today Prabal and I went out and tried to get my Visa extended but there were quite a few things to do before hand – like PAYING for the extension.  Everything here is done through banks.  You want a Visa of any sort, you have to deposit money into the required bank of the Embassies choice.  That means traveling about an hour from where we are – which is in Kolkata – to another part of Kolkata – via metro/bus/auto/rickshaw/foot and you are finally there.  Not necessarily in that order, but all of the above is used.  We arrived at the bank to pay the required fees, talked to the security guard upon entering…they stopped taking cash deposits at 2:30pm.  It was a little before 4pm when we arrived

How to Fake a Winter Vacation: Go Fabulously Faux! (They’ll Never Know)

According to recent studies, one-third of working Americans will not use all of their allotted vacation time this year, and the rest seem unable to decompress, taking working “breaks” that involve bringing blackberries, email, and piles of work along. The economy is rough, and many of us are holding onto our jobs for dear life, but vacations are a physical and emotional necessity, not a luxury, helping you to sleep better, feel more energized, and look 100% better..and besides, no one really cares about seeing the same ole' photos of palm trees and ubiquitous tropical sunsets. If you hear yourself wishing for “Belize, please!”, and find that – but for the price! – cruises and island getaways entice, why not consider a few days of R&R Chez Toi, taking some time to discover what's fun (and affordable) to do right in your own backyard.

The ongoing love affair between a single note and a perfumer continues with the seventh fragrance in the coveted L’Art et la Matière line: Thierry Wasser's Tonka Impériale. A woody oriental, it is composed around the tonka bean. Said to originate in the Northern area of South America, including the forests of Venezuela, the tonka bean – with its almond, cinnamon, clove & creamy sweetness – is historically one of Guerlain's star ingredients, and particularly dear to the House.

The Carma Foundation Helps Haiti for Real. So Can You.

When we last talked to Myrdith Leon-McCormack , it was about her new M2M damore Jon line of natural nail polishes . More recently, however, she had no desire to talk about herself or promote her products; her thoughts were on the tragic earthquake in her homeland, Haiti, and the Carma Foundation which she co-founded with the singer Melky Jean (sister of Wyclef Jean)

The Fashiontribes Fragrance Awards: the Best of 2009

The year in fragrance for 2009: it was the best of times; it was the worst of times. Too many releases, many of them in the category formerly known as “niche” which disappointed – especially from companies that sell fine jewelry as their main product – and were, for the most part, indistinguishable from commercial offerings, and twice the price! Too many ‘trendy’ fragrances using oud, not to mention the never-ending cotton candy sweet fruity florals, forgettable green florals, and fade-away aquatics. And of course the “flanker machine” of the large perfume companies continued churning out forgettable and often horrendous “aromas”, spinoffs of very good originals

Fergie Spices up Her New Year’s Eve Ensemble with Perrin Paris Gloves

Performing on Dick Clark’s Rockin New Year’s Eve 2010, Fergie added oomph to her sparkly mini with hand-crafted black leather gloves by Perrin Paris 1983 . The french-owned house has a more than 100 year history as a maker and purveyor of fancy ladies gloves since it was founded in 1893 by Victor Rigaudy. The enterprising 22 year old from Saint Junien – where leather gloves were traditionally manufactured in La Haute Vienne – married Berthe, herself from a family of Master Glovers

Get Fit & Fabulous This Year. Yes, You Can! Here’s How…

For the past decade, hundreds of studies have shown that “Get Fit” has consistently been a Top 10 New Year's resolution – generally in the Top 3, and #1 last year. Clearly, it's a resolution most of us break. To ditch the resolution-breaking treadmill in favor of the real thing, we turned to get-buff guru Daniel Lucas , owner of NIMBLE FITNESS , whose clients include Chris Noth (Big is looking less BIG), and Starbucks co-founder Dave Olsen.

According to New Brain Science, the Key to Getting Skinny is All in Your Head

Eating right, visiting the gym religiously, triumphing over the mid-afternoon sugar (or Venti fat+sugar+caffeine) attack, quitting smoking, saving money…wouldn't it be nice to make 2010 the year when your resolutions actually stick? “The fact that people make New Year's Resolutions in the first place—whether they're about fitness or kicking addictions or getting out of debt—shows that many, many of us are dissatisfied with our lives,” notes Patt Lind-Kyle , author of Heal Your Mind, Rewire Your Brain: Applying the Exciting New Science of Brain Synchrony for Creativity, Peace and Presence (Energy Psychology Press, 2009) and whose voice appears on the book's companion CDs
