We’re used to seeing riotous colour in Matthew Williamson’s designs, but I think this is possibly the soberest piece I’ve seen from the exuberant designer yet! That’s not to say it doesn’t evoke the same feelings of leisurely walks along sunny beaches: it’s just not quite as loud as some.

One thing that a lot of designers seem to have a very hard time doing is creating a bag that is both expensive-looking and covered in animal print. It’s not surprising since animal print is historically “tacky chic” at best, and at worst, just plain tacky. Getting past the initial “eww, is that zebra?” thought is a difficult sell for a lot of handbag customers in particular, since most people prefer their expensive bags to be neutral and timeless.

On a recent whizz around Marks and Sparks, The Bag Lad has been eyeing up all the fabulous designer-alike options in the accessories aisle once again. This padlock tote bag, which is a bit like a more streamlined, contemporary version of a Mulberry style is particularly chic, and it’s a great price too.

Luella may have stopped putting new styles out there (for now), and there’s eye-wateringly little left on her sale pages that hasn’t sold out. But there’s a thriving market for Luella on Ebay, and it’s well worth bookmarking the search term if you’re hoping to bag a Luella in the near future

The theme behind this latest show from JPG is ‘Mexican’, and you can tell that the designer has been down to the South American rainforest to pick up inspiration for these styles. The bags, which resemble broad leaves and palms look almost like they’re growing in the models’ hands, and are distinctly organic.

This season of Project Runway feels kind of like the show used to feel before it left Bravo, doesn’t it? It’s a nice feeling – warm, familiar, safe, fabulous.
