There are several brand sections that I never miss when I go to a department store – we all have our favorites, and I can’t leave without checking up on Balenciaga and Valentino because they make my favorite bags, but I also don’t miss an opportunity for Bottega Veneta leather-fondling. One touch is all you need to know why the brand’s bags are so pricey. I’m no great fan of paying high prices for non-leather bags, but after seeing the Yves Saint Laurent Large Shopping Tote , I’m unsure how long I’ll be able to continue my resistance to the concept. When you’re a fan of designer handbags, it’s best to come up with some personal price boundaries to avoid getting carried away. It’s easy to become desensitized when the most highly sought-after bag in the world costs in the high four figures, but not every bag is worth what the manufacturer might want us to pay.

I’m not sure if Jimmy Choo purposely set out to become the Juicy Couture of the “premier designer” set or not (although I’m guessing not), but sometimes they seem to be headed in that direction anyway. If you’ve sworn off synthetics for life having bought one too many cheap-and-cheerful plastic based bags to be fooled again, you might want to have a look in Oasis , which currently has a great range of 100% leather bags for those on a budget. In my opinion, a mid-range leather bag is certainly better value for money than three cheap ones that will invariably fall apart, and looks a good deal smarter too.
