In hindsight, perhaps last season’s demure, ladylike Louis Vuitton show should have tipped us off that Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 would be a wild, colorful ride through safari and Asian kitsch. Creative director Marc Jacobs doesn’t like to go in any one direction for more than a few moments at a time, and a collection with a strong point of view is always a good indication that the next collection will be just as strong, but in the opposite direction
As I said, Juicy Couture is working their way into the contemporary handbag market quite nicely. Their bags remain fun and playful while having a more mature finish. The Holiday collection infuses large bows, ombre sequins, fake fur, and chiffon ruffles

Alexander McQueen Spring 2011 may not be directly handbag related (only one purse was presented during this show, a Skull Clutch covered with weathered gold leaves), but the brand’s first post-McQueen collection is certainly of note. Sarah Burton, McQueen’s new creative director, did an extraordinary job of putting a new spin on the company’s legacy, despite having what Style.com called the most “thankless task in fashion.” Make sure you watch all the way through to see the show’s truly dazzling finale dresses

First and foremost, let’s all give a round of applause to Clemence Poesy/Eva/Frenchie for managing to say “Old Chuck, bad Chuck, new Chuck, good Chuck” in her non-native language and without struggling, stammering or making a face. I had a hard enough time just typing it (for some reason, the phrase came out with every word capitalized the first time), and I dare not attempt to say it out loud. What we saw may have been her 50th take, for all we know, but I’m not even sure I could do it with that many tries.

Flamboyant singer Paloma Faith looked like she was having a gay old time as she emerged from the Le Caprice restaurant in London last night, but we’re a little concerned about her treatment of that delightful vintage-looking handbag she’s swinging – or perhaps more importantly, its contents.

Over the past few seasons, I’ve noticed more and more Chanel fans expressing disappointment of one sort or another with the brand’s handbags. Too gimmicky, too expensive, not loyal enough to the brand’s customer base – we heard at least one, if not all, of those opinions every time we posted about a Chanel bag in this space.

I was recently bemoaning the state of my cosmetics and have decided that a good quality carry-case may be the answer. A bag like this can’t get squished in your handbag causing multiple lipstick trauma, and will look smart enough to haul around with you in situations where you may need to touch-up.

Chanel came through with a particularly strong collection for the coming spring and summer at the recent shows, featuring daubings of bold colour and abstract shapes on garments and accessories alike, alongside enchanting miniatures and scaled-down reworkings of the brand’s most classic, recognisable styles. In true Lagerfeld style, gloves featured heavily, with some beautifully embroidered cut-off styles such as this one pictured above left

An apparently ‘flu-ridden Lily Allen (I think she needs to bone up on the difference between colds and ‘flu , personally!) emerged from the depths of the Channel Tunnel at London’s St. Pancras station looking beautifully coordinated as ever, clutching a grey, quilted Chanel bag and perhaps the most coveted international accessory of all: a pristine UK passport.

Juicy Couture , once known only for its track suits and largely logo’d bags, is changing its handbag line in such a positive way that you’d be wrong to assume the brand can’t compete in the contemporary handbag market. After previewing Juicy’s holiday collection, I can honestly say that I adore the line.

As an effort to start blogging more regularly I’m starting two new series, one you will have to wait a few more days to hear about, the other is starting right here. Inspiration Weekly. As an artist/designer my inspiration folder on my desktop is overflowing with images, I thought it was about time I shared some of them.

I was wandering through the city with a friend the other day, and happened past the windows of the Miss Louise store (205 Collins St, Melbourne thank-you very much) where I stumbled upon some very cool looking goodies in the form of sneakers, heels and a clutch purse or two. It seems that while the 50s are the next fashion revival, there’s room for fashion inspired by the Gods of Metal – Hell yeah!

I’m delighted to say that The Bag Lady has been nominate for a Cosmo Blog Award ; the fashion bloggers’ answer to the Oscars. The internet has been buzzing with speculation over which sites will scoop the prize, since this is the first year that Cosmopolitan run the awards.

Last week, your reviews of The Real Housewives of DC were decidedly mixed, but after last night’s episode I’m not afraid to admit that I love it. Yes, “love” is the appropriate word here. Something about the contrast of proximity to power and total idiocy is just delicious, particularly when compared to the eternal trainwreck that is Real Housewives of New Jersey

Most of the shock value of Coach releasing a bag with a four-figure price tag wore off years ago, but the disparity between the prices of the Coach Madison Calf Hair Brynne Satchel and the Coach Madison Ocelot Sabrina Satchel truly caught be off guard. The Brynne, left, is made of printed calf hair with leather trim and is 14 inches wide
