One of my proudest moments was being accepted as a trade member of the Vintage Fashion Guild (VFG).    For anyone that doesn’t know about the VFG, it’s an international organisation set up in 2002 for vintage fashion professionals with members in America, Canada, Australia and the UK.  Just to quote directly from the website, their mission is to: 1. A few months back, we’ve partnered with our friends at Bluefly to put together a fabulous Purse Blog Store in their handbag section. We had the chance to pick some of our favorite bags, at any price point and put them all together in one fabulous store! When someone asked me if I’d ‘heard about Luella’ yesterday I was initially stumped. The question almost always precedes bad news, and what could possibly be going wrong for Designer of the Year Luella Bartley and her and fashion empire that’s currently enjoying huge success among a fiercely loyal army of well-dressed women? It only seems like yesterday that every fashion editor and her intern was fighting her way into the designer’s long-awaited sample sale.

Is it bad that on last night’s Gossip Girl , I found the TI cover song that was playing during the much-hyped threesome more entertaining than the threesome itself? I mean, seriously, who know that “Whatever You Like” was so downright melodious ? If the Gossip Girl writers were going to promote a dirty, nasty, parent-horrifying threesome as the point of this entire episode, it needed to be a lot more than a fairly minor point at the end of the episode’s B plot

Despite the fact that none of our designers can ever hope to be as spectacularly talented as Christian Siriano was two season ago (or as any of the top four were that season, really), they still continue to plug away at this thing we call Project Runway , even though it’s on a network that no one watches and it directly competes with Real Housewives. Not a good time slot decision, Lifetime execs. Anyway, I digress

I’m unusually impressed by Aldo’s bag ‘offer’ at the moment. I’ve tended to turn my nose up at the chain’s accessory range in the past, usually thinking I can get the same stuff cheaper somewhere else, but their designers seem to have captured the A/W 09/10 season really well with some fab black and electric blue studded items, including these two cute clutches.

Bargain Tuesday: Aldo ‘Gamm’ clutch bag

The brutal war of attrition between Bravo and the Weinsteins is over, and the first episode of the sixth season of Project Runway has come and gone, and guess what! It didn’t suck, like, at all! Well, ok, parts of it sucked, but those parts will get eliminated eventually. I was pleasantly surprised, and most of my fears were assuaged. In fact, the show felt almost exactly the same.

We’re talking more than we normally do about Alexander McQueen , and that’s not just because he’s one of my favorite designers. Well, that’s part of the reason, since I’m the one picking the bags, but it’s not the entire thing! Mostly it’s because, more than anyone else, McQueen’s luxe-punk aesthetic embodies so many of the trends for fall that other designers are scrambling to ape.

Being a sucker for all things kitsch and immature, there are a few things I can’t resist on a bag: one is lovehearts, another is mushrooms, but possibly my absolute favourite motif of all time has got to be robots . I’m not sure what it is that makes them so lovable, but it’s something about their vulnerability, their naivety and their tendency to shamble into things

Chie Mihara isn’t a name I’d normally associate with bags: the Spanish designer is better known for her footwear, which strikes a delicate balance between sensible and quirky. But where there are shoes there are bags, and I was impressed by this cute and very practical satchel made from squishy cream leather when I stumbled on it during a recent shoefinding mission!

As the A/W season draws closer it’s getting difficult to find beautiful bags that aren’t entirely black or brown, so I’ve gone to the other extreme today with this eye-popping purple leather clutch by Temperley.
